CPD module: multiple sclerosis

We give independent pharmacists a better understanding of the use of disease modifying treatments in multiple sclerosis.

After completing this module, you should be more aware of:

  1. the basis of multiple sclerosis cause and progression;

  2. the types of MS and how they differ in disease activity;

  3. the range of disease modifying treatments or drugs (DMTs/DMDs) available for MS;

  4. the rationale for using DMTs and their supply;

  5. which types of MS the different DMTs are indicated for;

  6. the range of DMT formats and dosing regimens;

  7. the different types of immunosuppressant DMTs;

  8. the different types of immunostimulant DMTs;

  9. possible modes of action;

  10. significant DMT adverse effects, especially infection, and vaccination considerations;

  11. aims of DMT and achieving MS with no evidence of disease activity or progression;

  12. considerations around stopping DMT use.
